    An antique Indian style bronze Kali (Mahakali) sculpture in a dynamic victory pose, this striking piece is rendered in the 13th-century Majapahit style. Here, the fearsome yet protective goddess stands triumphantly upon a prostrate Shiva, embodying the ultimate triumph of divine power and cosmic order.

    Kali is depicted with a single head and four arms, two of which hold a severed human head and a sword. The sword represents divine knowledge, while the severed head symbolises the human ego, which must be cut away through spiritual wisdom to attain moksha (liberation). She wears a richly bejewelled dhoti and upavita (sacred thread), and her gaze is cast downward toward the vanquished, expressing focused, unstoppable resolve.

    Around her neck hangs a dramatic garland of human heads, understood as the Varnamala, the garland of Sanskrit letters (Devanagari). Each letter is considered a form of energy and an aspect of Kali herself, affirming her role as mother of language and mantras. Upon her head she wears an ornate Indian-style tiara before a tall kirita-makuta (conical crown), symbolising mastery over both positive and negative forces. A third eye (urna) on her forehead signifies heightened spiritual vision beyond ordinary perception.

    Her features include an elegant aquiline nose and elongated earlobes adorned with large earrings, reinforcing her divine and royal status.

    The sculpture also includes a removable trident (trishula), further emphasising Kali’s role as a wielder of transformative power.
