  • Antique Khmer Style Bronze Seated Ganesha Statue -60cm/24"

    Measures (Height) 60cm/24"

An antique 12th century Angkor Wat style Khmer bronze seated Ganesha.

Ganesha, one of the most revered deities in Hinduism, is known as the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings.

Ganesha is enthroned on a large pedestal with a lotus leaf motif on its top rim. The lotus flower represents purity, compassion and the giving of great joy to all. The distinctive patina of the piece is particularly delightful. Ganesha is the elephant headed son of Shiva.

Ganesh holds his Discus or Chakra in one hand and a Dagger in his other.

The Discus (Sudarshana Chakra) is a powerful weapon and symbol of the mind and the power of cosmic law. The chakra represents the wheel of time (kalachakra) and the universe’s cyclical nature. It signifies Ganesha's role in protecting righteousness and destroying evil.

In Ganesha's case, the Dagger underscores his ability to help devotees overcome the mental and spiritual obstacles that stand in the way of personal growth and enlightenment.

Ignorance (avidya) is one of the greatest obstacles in the path of self-realization. In many Hindu scriptures, ignorance is described as a veil that prevents individuals from understanding the true nature of the self (Atman) and the universe (Brahman). Ganesha, being the remover of obstacles, wields the dagger to metaphorically cut through this ignorance, allowing his devotees to perceive the truth.

This aspect of the dagger is closely tied to Ganesha’s role as the god of wisdom. In Hinduism, wisdom is not merely about knowledge but about understanding the deeper truths of existence. The sharpness of the dagger symbolizes mental acuity and the ability to cut through the distractions and delusions that cloud one's spiritual vision.

The direction of Ganesha's trunk has symbolic meaning. Here the trunk turns to Ganesha's left. This signifies the direction for success in the world. It is a position associated with grihastas, or householders.

In his early forms in India, Ganesha was associated with fertility. Later he became widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles and more generally as Lord of Beginnings and Lord of Obstacles, patron of arts and sciences and the deity of intellect and wisdom.

One of the most recognizable of the Asian deities this representation of Ganesha is sure to enlighten your home with endlessly timeless style.

What Our Customers Think

I've just returned home to find my amazing Ganesh sitting waiting for me. He is absolutely beautiful, even more so then the pictures. I've been smiling all evening. Thank you so much.

Emma, Brighton, UK

Just to confirm, the Buddha statue arrived ahead of ETA on Friday. Both delighted.

Ian, Oxford, UK

Received the Mahamuni Buddha statue from 19th Century. The piece is remarkable. Very fortunate to have the opportunity to purchase authentic burmese buddha piece with burmese script on the bottom from my own country. Noted fast shipping to Colorado and above all, I am very impressed with the customer service. The sale rep contacted me personally via email to help me find the right statue I was looking for. Thank you!
