Antique Indonesian Style Seated Bronze Javanese Amitabha Buddha Statue - 13.5cm/5"
Measures (Height) 13.5cm/5"
An Indonesian Javanese style Amitabha Buddha perfect for those searching for serenity, meditation or an antidote to desire.
This delightful Buddha is seated on a double-lotus pedestal, in the adamantine posture of vajraparyankasana, the right leg over the left, with the soles of both feet facing upward.
The lotus flower represents the attaining of enlightenment and the ultimate fulfilment that follows. This symbol is heavily used in Eastern religions, which is why it can appear as both a held item or a seat. Some say that as the lotus flower grows in dirty water but becomes something beautiful, it demonstrates how we must forget our attachments to the material world around us and focus on our inner spirituality in order to seek happiness.
His robes are draped over his left shoulder. A portion of the garment that covers the left wrist falls behind the figure. The lower hem of the robe comes all the way down so that the undercloth or skirt is completely covered.
Buddha Amitbha's hands are held in a meditation Mudra. Fingers barely touching and gently folded over the lap with palms facing upward - representing gentleness and purity. In his hands he holds a alms bowl demonstrating the charity and generosity of the Buddha.
His eyes are downcast, his compassionate face bestowing peace, blessings and inner serenity on his devotees. The Amitabha Buddha symbolizes mercy and wisdom. Tantric meditation on Amitabha is an antidote to desire. He reigns over Sukhavati (the Western paradise) which is also called the Pure Land. Those reborn in the Pure Land experience the joy of hearing Amitabha teach the dharma until they are ready to enter Nirvana.
The Buddha is enthroned and surrounded by a double aureoles with a beaded border and flaming rim, topped by a lotus flower finial. He has a third eye or urna on his forehead symbolizing the ability of Buddha to see past our mundane universe of suffering.both
The large ushnisha protuberance on top of his head symbolises his high level of spiritual development.
