An antique Indonesian style standing Brahma in the Javanese Majapahit style.
Brahma, the Hindu god of creation, is one of the Trimurti alongside Vishnu and Shiva. Here he stands with eight arms, holding attributes including a bell, a mirror, a Bell, a conch shell, Trident, and a Lotus Bud. The Lotus Bud represents the primeval origin of life.
The Lotus Bud represents the primeval origin of life from cosmic waters. The lotus stem acts like an umbilical cord, connecting Brahma to the life-sustaining energy of Vishnu. A lotus signifies perfection, wisdom, and expanded consciousness. Just as a lotus grows out of muddy water but blooms perfectly clean and untouched by the mud, it represents remaining pure and enlightened amidst the chaotic material world
This finely cast, three-dimensional Khmer representation of Brahma presents the deity wearing traditional Indonesian jewellery, including elaborate earrings and a richly ornamented mukuta (crown).
The god is shown with four identical heads, their twisted hair arranged in horizontal bands in classic Majapahit fashion to form a quadruple jatamukuta, surmounted by a lotus flower motif. Each serene face has open eyes with incised pupils, continuous arched brows, neatly defined lips, and a delicately curled moustache, gazing toward the north, south, east, and west.
The compelling sense of power and presence is typical of the Majapahit style, softened by the gentle facial features and richly detailed adornments. His tiara-like mukuta is intricately decorated.
The casting is exceptionally crisp, with beautifully rendered details in the faces, hands, and ornaments. Traditional in appearance and rich in symbolism, this sculpture will bring a sense of serenity, reverence, and timeless style to any home, office, or sacred space.
