An antique Khmer Vishnu in the pre-Angkorian 9th century Phnom Da style. A majestic yet benign image of Vishnu.
The Vishnu embodies authority with his iconic downcast gaze and large unexpressive face. The general silhouette is heavier. The carving is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The features suggest the prana, or inner breath, that signifies superhuman power.
The simple carving of the diadem provide a delightful contrast with the complex presentation of the hair. The inner rims of the ears display the characteristic tripart scalloped treatment. The lobes complete and hanging low. The face is defined by slightly arched eyebrows, full rimmed lips, moustache, open rimmed eyes and a rather broad, flat nose.
Behind the head can be seen the surviving remains of his halo, aureole or arch - his circle of light symbolising his divinity. The face offers a naturalistic representation of musculature, delicately carved and refined facial features, typical of the Phnom Da style.

Large and/or fragile pieces requiring palletising, specialist crating and/or extra packaging may take a little longer. Palletised shipments will be delivered curbside.
