Lokeshvara Statue - Antique Khmer Style Mounted Stone Baphuon Style Lokeshvara Head - 60cm/24"
Measures (Height) 60cm/24"
An antique Khmer 11th century Baphuon style Lokeshvara head.
Lokeshvara is the bodhisattva of compassion (Avalokitesvara) in his role as the lord of the six realms of existence (hell beings, hungry ghosts, animals, humans, demigods, and gods).
A top the Lokeshvara's head can be seen a seated meditating Amitabha Buddha.
His softly contoured face with indigenous characteristic has a serene downcast expression, with heavy-lidded eyes, arched eyebrows carved in relief over a well-shaped broad nose, moustache and wide lips with a serene, welcoming smile are framed by a second incised line and beauty lines upon the neck.
The head is covered in tightly braided woven hair, enhanced by a cylindrical-shaped 'Chignon' style topknot, secured by a lotus flower. The lotus flower represents purity, compassion and the giving of great joy to all.
A third eye can be seen on his forehead. Along with his eyes, the third eye, has a locator for a jewel to be inserted. As would have been traditional during religious ceremonies.
The sculpture is mounted on a wood base and would be shipped in a wood crate to aid with safe transportation.
This traditional in appearance piece is sure to add a unique touch to any room of your home or workplace.

In honoring the Buddha’s Parinirvana, Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike can find inspiration to live mindfully, act compassionately, and seek wisdom in the face of life’s impermanence.
Through these practices, we move closer to the peace and liberation that the Buddha so compassionately exemplified.
