A pre‑Angkor, early‑8th‑century style seated bronze Khmer Buddha in the Phnom Da style.

This elegant Buddha sits on a simple pedestal, clothed in a monastic ensemble of two traditional elements: a long lower garment wrapped around the hips and a loose sanghati robe that falls over the left shoulder. The drapery clings closely to the body, gently revealing the underlying anatomy in a style that recalls early seventh‑century Dvaravati sculpture and, further back, the sculptural traditions of Gupta period India.

His hands rest in Dhyana mudra, the gesture of meditation, evoking deep contemplation and inner stillness. The face is serene and naturalistic, with a warm, composed expression; the hair is simply rendered and rises into a lotus‑flower‑shaped ushnisha, symbolising advanced spiritual attainment. Half‑closed eyes suggest inward focus, while the softly modelled mouth and lightly dimpled chin add a subtle, human tenderness.
