Antique Khmer Style Seated Bronze Buddha Statue Meditation Mudra 25cm/10"
Measures (Height) 25cm/10"
An antique Khmer‑style bronze enthroned Buddha, finely cast and beautifully patinated.
The Buddha sits in serene meditation upon a high double‑lotus throne, the tightly packed petals forming a rhythmic base that lifts the figure with quiet authority. The lotus, rising pure from the mud, symbolises spiritual purity, compassion and the joy that comes from awakening, making it an especially fitting support for this contemplative image.
His body has a strong, classical profile: broad shoulders tapering to a slender waist, wrapped in a Sanghati robe that falls diagonally across the torso and leaves the right shoulder bare. A deeply pleated flap descends towards the navel, its crisp lines echoing the natural folds around the crossed legs. The drapery clings just enough to suggest the noble form beneath, typical of Khmer interpretations of the Buddha.
The face is oval and gently modelled, with almond‑shaped downcast eyes set under gracefully arched brows that meet above a straight, prominent nose. Full, contoured lips curve into a faint, exalted smile, giving the Buddha an expression of profound inner peace. Shell‑like curls cover the head in ordered rows, culminating in a lotus‑bud ushnisha that signifies his fully realised spiritual wisdom. Long, pendulous earlobes recall his princely youth, when he wore heavy jewellery before renouncing worldly life.
Seated firmly in Dhyana mudra, the classic meditation posture, the Buddha rests both hands in his lap with the palms upward, right hand over left. This gesture embodies deep concentration, inner stillness and unity with higher truth, making the statue an ideal focal point for meditation or quiet reflection.
The bronze has developed a rich, dark surface with subtle green and brown undertones, the patina softening the modelling while preserving fine details of face, robe and lotus petals. Light catches delicately on the edges of the drapery and the contours of the features, giving the figure a gentle, almost candle‑lit glow.
Traditional in appearance yet timeless in impact, this Khmer‑style enthroned Buddha will bring a sense of calm dignity to any room. Whether placed in a living space, study, office or dedicated shrine, it offers a quietly powerful presence—an image of stillness and clarity that anchors the eye and the mind.

Your reclining Buddha has found a very special place in the entry way to our home. It joins several other art pieces that enhance our environment and remind us of our travels while living part time here in the southern California desert. Thanks again for your very helpful assistance in acquiring this art piece.
