Baphuon
Our Baphuon statues are inspired by the mid‑11th‑century Baphuon temple in Angkor Thom, a three‑tiered “temple mountain” first dedicated to Shiva and later transformed into a Buddhist sanctuary. This period marks a high point in Khmer architecture and sculpture, known for harmonious proportions, elegant lines and richly carved sandstone surfaces.
Within this collection you’ll find pieces that echo key Baphuon‑style qualities: refined, slightly elongated bodies, softly modelled faces, and abundant decorative carving that recalls the temple’s dense bas‑reliefs of Hindu myths and celestial beings. Some statues draw on the powerful Vishnu and Shiva imagery of the original Hindu phase, while others reference the later reclining Buddha created from the temple’s western side masonry, reflecting Baphuon’s shift from Hindu to Buddhist worship. Each statue is selected to convey that blend of grace, inner strength and intricate detail characteristic of the Baphuon style.
Baphuon statues are ideal for collectors and interiors that appreciate historic Khmer aesthetics, whether displayed on an altar, console table or dedicated niche. Their calm yet dignified presence, combined with the temple’s layered Hindu–Buddhist history, brings a sense of depth and narrative to any space, making them perfect for those drawn to Angkor‑period Cambodia and serious Southeast Asian art.
