Antique Thai Style Enthroned Lopburi Meditation Buddha Statue - 95cm/38"
Measures - (Height) 95cm/38"
An antique Lopburi style enthroned meditation Buddha from Thailand.
Lopburi, a province located in central Thailand, has a historical legacy that dates back to the Dvaravati period (6th to 11th centuries) when Buddhism first flourished in the region. The Lopburi style Buddha emerged during the later Sukhothai and Ayutthaya periods, around the 13th to 17th centuries, marking a distinct phase in Thai religious artistry.
Enthroned on an ornate pedestal the Lopburi style Buddha is renowned for its symmetrical and well-proportioned features. As it typical, this Lopburi statue depicts Buddha in a seated position, with a calm and meditative expression. The emphasis on symmetry reflects the balance and harmony that Buddhists seek in their spiritual journey.
The Buddha sculpture is comprised of 8 pieces which form an ornate and stunning Buddha, throne and aureole.
The Buddha is seated in the Dhyana mudra or 'Meditation Position' the hand gesture that promotes the energy of meditation, deep contemplation and unity with higher energy. The Buddha has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow. His earlobes are stretched long from a youth spent as a prince wearing heavy gold earrings.
His ushnisha and robes are decorated in traditional Lopburi style.
Buddha also has a third eye or urna on his forehead symbolizing the ability of Buddha to see past our mundane universe of suffering.
Surrounding Buddha sits an aureole. The flaming rim aureole includes enlgihtment Buddhas and an ornate lotus flower inspired finial. This circle of light symbolises the divinity of Buddha.
As we marvel at this masterpiece, we are reminded of the profound connection between art and the human spirit, transcending time and cultural boundaries.
The sculpture provides the perfect Buddha to bring serenity and timeless style to your home, office or sacred space.
