Antique Khmer Style Dancing Hindu God Hanuman Statue - 40cm/16" Tall
Measures - (Height) 40cm/16"
Antique Khmer style dancing Hanuman statue. Beautiful design and patina. Wonderful presence.
Hanuman is a god and an ardent devotee of the god Rama and an avatar of the god Shiva.
The sculpture is in the Bayon style depicting a dynamic figure, recognisable as a senior officer from the heavy chain of office that crosses his chest. Similar images can be seen in reliefs on the Bayon temple that illustrate battle scenes during the 12th century. The concept of a military commander in monkey form derives from the Hindu epic of the Ramayana, where Prince Rama's forces were aided by the monkey army led by the monkey General Hanuman.
The casting of this piece is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the piece. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The distinctive patina of the piece is also particularly delightful.
The sculpture is stood on a bronze base that is an integral part of the piece.
This traditional in appearance piece is sure to add serenity to your home, office or sacred space.
